This problem started
after Assemblyman Jim Tedisco introduced legislation that would impose fines
for not clearing your vehicle
of ice and snow before operating.
According
to truckers in a newspaper article, there is no known solution to clearing off the roofs of tractor trailers. They also
believe that it is too dangerous for a person to clear it off from on top of it. There are consequences for failure
to clear the trucks off. This task is a shared responisiblity between the company and the driver. The
fines for failure to clear off your vehicle is very steep in NYS. So the need for the device is a top priority.
The best place to set up the
device would be at rest stops or at company distribtuion centers. After some research, we found a similar device that
is set up at a UPS distribution center.
Our original idea was to have
a post or support on each side that could raise and lower in order to adapt to the varying heights of the trucks. It
would then have a brush that connects the two posts that brushes the ice and snow off when you drive under it.
